Lead me to the Cross

"The cross before me, the world behind me." (Christ is enough by Hillsong) Lead me to the cross, and in saying that does not simply, just be led to Christ only to enjoy His presence and what He has done on the cross, but also to partake in the sufferings of Christ and understanding His death and resurrection, to take up our cross as well, to deny ourselves and live our very lives crucifying the old self to the cross and living the new victorious life in Christ, in which part of the process will include the letting go of certain things we hold dear in this world that contradicts us in our walk with God. Christ said Himself in Luke 9:23-25 "Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?" The thing we hold dear might not necessarily be materialistic things, but also can be our certain characteristics, titles, pride, positions and so forth. The other day I read an interesting article online by Jason Brooks on worthy living and this is what he wrote concerning Apostle Paul: "That’s why the Apostle Paul said that he considered his life as “rubbish” (in some translations, “dung”) when compared to Christ. Not his race, or his religion, or his reputation were worth a thing when compared to the Savior. Paul knew that the things that make us human – where we come from, how we were raised, what people think of us – are the very things that separate us from God. And despite his fierce love for each of those things, Paul saw them all as worthless when placed beside the Holy Christ, because it is in Christ that we find life." (by Jason Brooks). So how many of us is ready to become disciples of Christ, to take up our cross as well and follow Christ, to dive deeper in our relationship with Christ, instead of just enjoying His finished works and His presence on the surface only?

Philippians 3:7-1 "But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

"Lead Me To The Cross" by Hillsong

Savior I come
Quiet my soul remember
Redemption's hill
Where Your blood was spilled
For my ransom
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as lost

[Chorus:]
Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Lead me, lead me to the cross

You were as I
Tempted and trialed
Human
The word became flesh
Bore my sin and death
Now you're risen

Everything I once held dear
I count it all as lost

To your heart
To your heart
Lead me to your heart
Lead me to your heart
