Its February.. the magical month of love. where stalls selling flowers, chocolates, love cards, love notes, teddy bears, gifts start appearing on the roadside, jewelry shops earn a higher income, restaurant prices hike up, heart shaped decorations fill the shopping malls, love songs on radios, man crack their head to write a romantic poem for the woman, single people cry ~~and throw mandarin oranges into the sarawak river.~~

In this month of love, lets embrace forgiveness. Extend love not only to our other half, but to our family and friends as well. And most importantly remember the love of God!! =)

Did you ever wondered why GOD didn't compile another book as the BIBLE but a BIBLE ON PURELY WORSHIP? That's because we will turn out being pharisee-tical about worship as men did in the days of Christ. Unfortunately the Churches of today are heading that way.

We are beginning to be critical in the totality of worship in its style, preparation, order, sequence, transition, flow, order,choice of songs, being methodical, skills etc.
As we begin to engineer worship, we begin to create something that we believe is THE template, to a successful guide, method in creating an atmosphere of worship.
The problem is, the move of the Holy Spirit which is spontaneous to the sovereignty of HIS choice, does not subscribe to a template made or designed by Men.
As much as the consideration to plan and structure how our worship services is to turn out, there has to be the regard for the sovereignty of HIS move and spontaneity, that we have to anticipate in the totality of worship.
Nor in any way can we be ever prepared, when the sovereign presence of GOD direct and lead the worship, which is not determine by Men's design or experiences.

An added danger is that, we are designing worship to cater to the needs of Men rather than to honour the sovereignty of GOD. So much so we begin to customize our worship turning it into a program, tailored to suite and please the people.
In getting caught up with all of it, we also begin to ensure that our worship has to look and sound good to impress the people.
The flow and transition needs to be immaculately flawless to be seen that our worship is THE way, of an example of a great worship. Where then is our focus towards during worship? GOD or MEN?

For those of us including myself, leading and worshiping together, it will be crucial for us to review and reflect to how we are engaging worship in our respective churches. Rather than to being driven to perfection in our worship, we need to be caught up to be consumed in HIS presence.

We can never re-use, replicate, copy what other churches who may have seemed successful in its approach to worship and implement it in ours.
I truly believe GOD would want us to discover our own uniqueness in our worship, rather than to replicate a template of another.

The success of a great worship of a church is determined by both, the personal and corporate consistency of our own personal encounter with GOD daily, through worship and prayer which GOD holds us accountable. Why do we need our encounters with HIM?, it is to be sharpened in our discernment to being able to identify and recognize His voice, which then transcends into our worship, that we may be called to alter the course of the worship to His sovereign will and direction for GOD to bless His people.

It is not dependent on being critical in the engineering technicalities of worship. If it is, we have gotten it all wrong. (material obtained from Patrick Leong's status in facebook)

Desiderata was a poem written by Max Ehrmann. The Desiderata poem, a beautiful poem in itself has a controversy in its copyright. It was used by rev Frederick Kates from St Paul's Church in Baltimore for devotional materials where he wrote "Old St Paul's Church, Baltimore A.C. 1692" which caused people to think that the Desiderata poem was found in the church. A court ruling mentioned that Max Ehrmann had forfeited his right to have the copyright of Desiderata protected so that other can use the work gratuitously although later courts ruled in favor of the copyright with the Supreme Court declining to listen to the case. But despite all this confusion on the copyright of the poem, it is a poem that really touches on many wisdom concerning human behaviors and is nicely composed. Cheers to Max Ehrmann.

Its that time when you drive through the night sky before the new year, you see 'magic' in the sky and listen to the endless crackling of fire crackers. Its that time of the year when families gather to eat together, do spring cleaning, and go visiting. I watched the movie Grace Card and this is a movie i would recommend for everyone to watch.

Through this movie i have learnt many things. One of the things that i have learnt from this movie is bringing the salt and light to the work environment. Max and Sam are police officers and colleagues. Sam not only becomes salt and light during sunday but also brings his salt and light to office as well. He manages to minister and help Max in the end.

The second thing that i learnt in this movie is letting go of the past. Holding on to pains, hurts and the past only puts us in solitary confinement, a self made prison that keeps us from enjoying the present and the future. Max here has been suffering the pain of losing his child years ago and was unable to let it go, causing him to have a broken down family and keeping revenge and hatred in his heart. The past comes to haunt and will kill the present and future of many things. We need to break free from the past, learn to live in the present and embrace the future. Holding on to the past will not do any good to change it as time does not go backwards. Thus, the past is just a lesson to be learnt.

Another lesson i learnt from the movie was that everything that has happened, happened for a reason. That in everything, there is a blessing in disguise. In the movie, when Max shot his own son by accident when his son tried to steal a car, everything seemed like it would end just right there. But God's hands is in everything, and it ended with Sam donating his kidney for Max's son's surgery. Every pieces in life is a small piece of puzzle and only God Himself can see the finished picture!

Unforgiveness. Justice cannot give us all the peace of heart. Revenge only sheds more blood than should be shed. Forgiveness. This is what give peace.

Grace. It is easy for us to receive grace but not to give it to others. We should live each day and be ready to give the grace card to people when they need it.

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I’ve got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes..

Suddenly I didn’t know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly. She didn’t seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?

I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn’t talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn’t love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Jane so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn’t have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Jane. When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn’t want anything from me, but needed a month’s notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month’s time and she didn’t want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day. She requested that every day for the month’s duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Jane about my wife’s divorce conditions. . She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn’t had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mommy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don’t tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn’t looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me. On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn’t tell Jane about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.

Suddenly it hit me… she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it’s time to carry mom out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.

But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn’t noticed that our life lacked intimacy. I drove to office…. jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind…I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Jane, I said, I won’t divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn’t value the details of our lives, not because we didn’t love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart. Jane seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away. At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I’ll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead. My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push through with the divorce.

This story shows the true meaning of marriage. Faithfulness is important in a marriage. Marriage after all isn't just about the ceremony, it is about the commitment, a lifetime commitment to love one another. Faithfulness is important, if a better one comes along, that's when the faithfulness you have for the one you love is being tested. And if you withstand the test of faithfulness, then the marriage will be an awesome one, there will never be a better one than the person you love.

Few days ago, my dad sent me an email.. the email contained only one photo:

My first glance at this photo. Cheh. Wash leg nia ma... so easy. But on second thoughts. No. Its not that easy. And the photo was not about the washing legs, washing legs was never the main point in the photo yo. Its about me and my mum yo. Looking back the journey of my life, from being a baby up till now, my mum has brought me up to be the man i am today. There are times when i am rebellious, there are times when i do not show enough love for my mum, there are times when i do not help her much with cleaning the house or mopping the floor, there are times when i will have a quarrel with her, there are times when i will raise my voice at her, there are times when i failed as a son to show her appreciation for the countless things she has done for me and there are times when i am rude to her. Despite it all my mum has loved me the same all this years. When God selected my mum for me, He must have knew that she is the one who will be able to patiently bring me up and take care of me and love me with a mother's great love. I remember when i am small, my mum will usually force me to study when i liked to play and fool around. My mum would usually make me do house works such as clean our own school shoes, wash the toilet even when i was a kid in primary school, i also learn cooking skills by watching my mum cook when i used to be small. God did says in the Bible that "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them." (Proverbs 13:24) My mum will usually discipline me with the rod when i am being rebellious, over naughty, do wrong things, abandon my studies to play and fool around, when i was small i used to think that my parents dont love me because of the rod. The rod is a thing i fear a lot when i was small and each time i was disciplined because of my stubborn attitude that likes to play and i will hate my parents after makan rotan u know. But now, looking back, if my mum didnt discipline me with the rod, imagine what kind of spoilt brat will i become. I might not even do well in my studies and end up a useless person because i am lazy by nature when i was small. I really thank God that she disciplined me a lot because it has given me much experience in life as this things has made me stronger in life. I remember i would always end up in fight back in primary school and secondary school. I even has very bad discipline records such as fighting with teachers, bullying my friends, fighting, vandalism and is well known for my terrible temper. My mum will usually be summoned to see my cikgu discipline to discuss my attitude. She endured the embarrassment to meet with my teacher and my teachers always know her because i am a very bad kid in school yo. During this times, my mum will always advise me and tell me the right and wrong things to do. She persisted in giving me advice and i by the age of 16, i changed and decided to really start to control my temper and also to really start studying as hard as i could to please my parents. It was then that i realised the importance of education and because of that i am able to attend my graduation ceremony in less than 2 weeks time. And the person who prayed hard for my salvation, that i would know God was my mum, she has never given up in prayer that i will know Jesus one day. And her prayers was indeed answered and i now know Jesus. There is a quote that says that "behind every successful man, is a woman". i had to agree with this quote. My life is not considered a success yet as i still have a long journey to go, but my successes so far i attribute to my mum's up bringing and God as well. A woman who prays for me every time she drives me to uni and now she prays for me in the car every time she drives me to work, that is my mum yo. Now, looking back at the photo..

I realised that now, its my turn to remember how she cared for me, that i must do the same for her now that she is getting older. It is true that when we are small, we hold our mum's hands when we cross the road. And when we grow bigger, we no longer hold our mum's hands when we cross the road. But as we grow bigger, our mum grows older too. Old people cross road alone is dangerous yo... they need us yo. Its time we hold our mum's hand as we cross the road.
